KOBE BRYANT ‘AFTER SCHOOL ALLSTARS’
Kobe is the modern day Jordan his career of 20 years in the NBA has been glorified by Americans, especially young black men. Bryant’s resume is impressive —five championships, 18 All-Star game appearances, and has scored over 30,000 points, making him the third highest scoring NBA star in history. No wonder why he’s looked up to as a role model that will go down in history. His recent retirement is the end of his basketball career but just the beginning of him spending more time on giving back. Many celebrities have a high level of success but don’t take the time or make the effort to create organizations that give back to the community. Or even if they do create or support an organization it is short lived and poorly publicized so people don’t have much access or information. This isn’t making a large impact on the black community. Thankfully Bryant takes giving back seriously and not just as a publicity stunt. For all of his conscious efforts and work he has done in the community, Bryant won the humanitarian award in 2015. The black community and celebrities have so many resources and finances that could truly make a difference.
It would be nice to see more celebrities create programs that will help create jobs and resources. Programs that can help support and sustain the communities that are really in need. Instead, celebrities spend money on million dollar mansions, luxury cars and jewelry instead of giving back. Thank you Kobe Bryant for all you have done for your community. Thank you for being a role model for not only children who admire your basketball career, but a role model for celebrities to learn the effective way to give back.
