Wait, what? Isn’t that Lil Kim?
Yep, that blonde headed woman with pale skin is none other than the original Queen Bee.
Over the years, Kim has had gone through many transformations and have been accused of bleaching her skin to make it lighter; however, in her recent photos posted on Instagram, she has received both ridicule and sympathy from the public.
The extreme change in her appearance comes in light of the revival of her career and the release of a new mixtape called Lil Kim Season as well as a promise to her fans to release more music in the near future.
It’s strange to remember that this now white woman once used to represent strong, empowered black women who embraced their sexuality and rocked that. She put forth a message that, yes, her body was for pleasure—but her own pleasure came first.
But now? We look at this woman with the long straight blonde hair, thin nose, and pale skin and wonder why. Why has she changed so dramatically and what in her life caused her to do it?
Many would say that she is succumbing to the world around her where there is an obvious preference to lighter skin. People of darker skin tones in Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and even in the US have chemicals available to them to lighten their skin in an effort to… Be white.
But then, there may be another cause that contributed to Kim feeling like she needed to essentially change her race. As she says:
It is saddening to see woman who once was the embodiment of a strong woman of color who embraced her sexuality and her race, to be so… Broken by men.
Perhaps what is even more disheartening is it is clear that Kim has some issues and is taking things to an extreme measure to maybe change her appearance. However, we have to wonder, how is Kim’s whitewashing any different than Rachel Dolezal identifying as black? Why isn’t Kim being lambasted as much as Rachel?
